It’s been a bit!
I have to admit that I’d lost interest in blogging for quite a while because I felt so creatively drained. I’ve been writing a lot lately, but the blogging world has been kinda dark over the past few months.
It seemed like such a huge, daunting task to construct a coherent blog post.
Maybe that’s a reflection of my brain recently.
Maybe I’ve been inhaling too much caffeine and couldn’t sit down to think straight for more than 2 minutes.
Idk.
But I have realized something! I think the reason I’ve avoided blogging was because I’ve overwhelmed myself with it.
I always felt like it had to be at least 800 words long for it to be worth it. I felt like it had to be perfect. And profound.
For some reason, I’ve had this misconception that my blog has to be this regimented structure; flawless and substantial.
But, as any of you can probably tell, that’s not me.
My thoughts flow down many paths, unable to keep on course, to explore every crevice in my brain.
This isn’t a writing blog. This isn’t a book blog. This isn’t an inspirational blog.
But it is my blog. And that’s what makes it unique!
So anyway, I’ve been thinking about this topic, and there’s so much emphasis nowadays on the “creative hustle”.
You’ve got to work hard if you ever want to succeed creatively. There’s NO TIME for sitting around. Your ideas will die with you if you’re not careful.
All of this stuff is true and it’s important to fight through the slumps.
But forcing creativity is counterintuitive to the purpose of creating!
In order to create something lovely, sometimes you have to sit back and absorb the loveliness around you.
Sometimes you have to read three or four books in order to get inspired, or study the way light reflects like a shattered sea across the grass in order to write poetry, or watch the birds flutter in the trees in order to imagine them secretly discussing war tactics against the crows.
I’m not saying you should be lazy, but sometimes you need to take a breath.
Step away.
And when you come back, you will be equipped to construct a masterpiece.
P.S. THERE’S A BLOG REBRAND COMING SOON!!!! Keep an eye out, lads 😉
