Today I’m going to be giving you five Wattpad tips that were super helpful to me when I was just getting started!
I’m just going to come out and say it: Wattpad has made me an infinitely better writer.
The motivation to write at least one chapter a week has pushed me to finish an entire story (something that has NEVER happened in my six years of writing!), and encouraged me to start another.
And the fact that it doesn’t have to be perfect is so freeing. It is a first draft, after all!
To have a place to exercise your creativity in an environment where typos are overlooked has been such a lovely experience.
And maybe (hopefully) you’re thinking about trying it out!
So, without further adieu, here are 5 TIPS FOR WRITING ON WATTPAD.
1.) Be Consistent!
This is the first piece of advice any Wattpad article will tell you, and it’s important for two reasons.
First, and most obvious, is the fact that your readers will be familiar with your posting schedule, so they form a habit of checking for your story whenever you publish a new chapter!
A lesser-know perk of being consistent, however, is that Wattpad features your story to recommended readers under the “Recently Updated” category. Whenever you post a new chapter, your story will be put in that loop…which is right where you want to stay.
2.) Don’t worry about being perfect.
The thing with Wattpad is that 98.8% of the stories on there are first drafts…and are usually quite messy.
Everyone expects there to be plot holes, typos, and all kinds of writing hiccups.
Readers are there for the story. They focus on the potential of the story, rather than the errors it currently possesses.
And to me, that’s kind of magical. (but I am a sappy fairy child, so that’s just me)
3.) Take time.
No, not time excessively editing every paragraph, or obsessing over everything.
Take the time to make each Wattpad story a work of art in itself, because, in a sense, it’s a creative outlet all its own…if you use it as such.
What better way to compliment a new chapter than an aesthetically pleasing header?
I’m a firm believer in the art of beautiful. I think everything you touch should leave some sort of lovely fingerprint.
And Wattpad is no exception =P
4.) Use Hashtags.
You guys, this is so important.
Using your “Tags” will help you gain more readership. So pretend like that section of your Story Details is like the bottom of an Instagram post you want everyone to see.
5.) Build a community.
Connect with other writers.
Build up a community of other talented people you can bounce ideas off of.
Reach out to the people who have followed your account/started reading your story.
I have to admit, I never really did this before, and I’m just now starting to connect with different people. It’s been so much fun conversing with people who have actually read my story!
And don’t forget to reciprocate the kindness! Reading other people’s stories is so much fun, and it’s a wonderful way to start up a conversation. Encouraging other writers is a huge reward in itself.
And there you have it! I know these tips are pretty basic, but I didn’t realize how important they were to gain more reads/have a better Wattpad experience until I actually started putting them into practice.
Thank you for reading, and I hope it was helpful!
